What does Disaster Relief do?
Florida Baptist Disaster Relief responds to people and communities affected by disasters with practical help and spiritual care. Depending on the need, teams may provide meals, clean up debris, remove fallen trees, assist with flood recovery, provide chaplaincy, support response operations, and more.
What kinds of opportunities are there to serve?
There are opportunities for many different skills and abilities. Ministry areas include Feeding, Clean Up & Recovery, Chaplaincy, On-Site Management, Administrative Support, and Logistical Support.
Do I need construction or chainsaw experience?
No. Some roles involve physical cleanup or specialized skills, but many do not. Disaster Relief includes a wide variety of opportunities, so you don't need to be a contractor or know how to operate a chainsaw to get involved.
Do I need to be trained to serve?
Most Florida Baptist Disaster Relief ministry areas require volunteers to be trained and credentialed. However, Day Volunteer opportunities may also be available during certain disaster responses for individuals and church groups who have not completed training.
How do I become a credentialed Disaster Relief volunteer?
Florida Baptist Disaster Relief provides training to prepare volunteers to serve. The credentialing process includes a background check, orientation, and training in one or more ministry areas.
Can I train for more than one area?
Yes. Volunteers can cross-train in multiple ministry areas, allowing them to serve wherever help is most needed during a response.
What is a Day Volunteer?
Day Volunteers are individuals or church groups who have not completed Disaster Relief credentialing but may be able to serve alongside trained teams during certain responses. Availability and requirements vary depending on the disaster and current needs.
Where does our Disaster Relief team serve?
Our team serves wherever needs arise through Florida Baptist Disaster Relief, from communities here in Florida to larger disaster responses beyond our immediate area.
