Mary Lou Cooper

COVENANT FELLOWSHIP BAPTIST CHURCH

Remembering Mary Lou
Mary Lou Cooper was born to Jack and Olga Nichols in Indianapolis, Indiana, on February 23, 1948. She was the oldest sister to Tanya and Hollie.

She began dancing at a young age and carried a love for dance throughout her entire life. Mary Lou first met Steve Cooper in junior high, and they began dating in college. In fact, the first time she saw Steve in the hallway, she turned to her friend and said, “I’m going to marry that guy someday.” And she did—they were married on August 23, 1970.

Mary Lou was the first person in her family to attend college. She attended Ball State University, where she majored in Special Education. She was beautiful inside and out and won several beauty contests, including runner-up for Miss Ball State and Princess of Light for the Indianapolis 500.
She spent most of her career at Heritage Christian School, where she taught third grade and later served as assistant principal for the elementary school. Through her work, she impacted generations of children and their families, sharing knowledge and her faith. She worked for Heritage for 32 years and then retired.

Mary Lou and her husband, Steve, raised four children together. She was a deeply loved grandmother to 24 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.

In 2018, she and Steve moved to Stuart, Florida, to be closer to their family. While there, she loved quality time with her family and was actively involved in her church, Covenant Fellowship Baptist Church.

The last few years of her life were spent bravely battling Alzheimer’s, which led to her passing on April 15, 2026. We celebrate knowing that she is now truly healed, at peace, and face-to-face with her Savior, Jesus Christ.

She fought the good fight, she finished the race, she kept the faith.
